If you are interested in internet marketing and making money
online, you may have heard the expression, "The money's in the
list." It is true for the most part - but not always - that in
order to make a significant amount of money online, you will
want and need a mailing list. A mailing list these days means a
form where a person enters their name and email address, and
must confirm the subscription via a validating email that will
be sent to them. This is called a "double opt-in" mailing list,
and such lists were created specifically to avoid being
considered as spam. In a double opt-in list, you can also
unsubscribe easily using a link at the bottom of any email from
that list.
Why do you need a list?
If you think about how businesses have functioned offline using
snail mail, sending out follow-up advertisements, notices and
newsletters to alert their customers of sales and new products
and services, you can imagine why you need a list, for whatever
business field you enter into. Even non-profit organizations use
mailing lists to keep people apprised of their progress and
events. And now, mailing lists online are basically free and
easy, which can be very exciting. In a matter of seconds or
minutes, you can have a newsletter or promotion sent out to
hundreds, thousands and even millions of people! In the past,
snail mail would have cost a great deal of money to harness
that kind of power.
So, how do you build a mailing list? Well, that part can be
tricky, but it is not impossible. There are lots of great
methods to build a solid and responsive mailing list. The trick
is to figure out which ones work and how they work, because some
procedures are difficult and time-consuming to master and may
not be worth the time and effort. The main thing is that you
need to be passionate and motivated to build a business that's
in for the long haul and that can provide interesting, quality
information to anyone who joins your list. In general, most
people can't half-heartedly go into something and make a
success of it. In creating a list of people who have willingly
and enthusiastically joined to have you share your information
with them, you have an obligation and responsibility to follow
through. If these factors are there - interesting information,
passion, drive and responsibility - then you will be able to
create a mailing list with loyal and responsive subscribers who
will help you build your business.
